5 Fantastic Summer Health Tips
We are officially in the full swing of summer...hooray!
And, if you’re anything like us, we hope you’ve been enjoying everything this season has to offer.
From time at the pool and going on vacation, to celebrating summer holidays and enjoying time outside with friends and family, there’s always so much to do!
The only downside to this season is that the sun, heat, and water tends to take a toll on your body. That’s why we wanted to provide you with 5 fantastic summer health tips that will help keep you safe and healthy this season.
Check them out now…
Summer Health Tip #1 - Stay Hydrated
Our body loses a lot of water when we are hot due to perspiration. The worst part...in the heat you don’t even have to be doing anything crazy to work up a sweat. Simply lounging out in the sun can cause you to lose water.
If you’re not continually rehydrating yourself, you can very quickly become dehydrated, which can cause a variety of health problems including…
- Headaches
- Fainting
- Vomiting
- Heat stroke
- Kidney failure
The bottom line: Drink up! You need to increase your water intake!
In general, drinking filtered water is the best thing for your body. So be sure to take a water bottle full of fresh drinking water wherever you go.
However, if you’re out playing sports or doing any sort of strenuous activity, a sports drink or coconut water beverage can help replenish your electrolytes much faster than plain water.
We personally love Zico coconut water! Give it a try here!
Summer Health Tip #2 - Wear Sunscreen
Every time you end up with a sunburn, your skin becomes damaged.
Over time, excessive damage can contribute to developing skin cancers. At the very least, the damage can cause sunspots, skin rashes, and other unpleasant skin conditions.
We know it’s nice to sport a tan during the summer months. But no tan is worth a battle against skin cancer. For that reason, we recommend you always wear sunscreen!
At the very least, please please please make sure your kids are protected!
We offer a variety of natural sunscreen products.
Summer Health Tip #3 - Get Plenty of Sleep
During the summer the sun stays out for a longer period of time. With so much sunlight it’s easy to stay up later and not get the sleep you need to function during the day.
Are you getting enough sleep?
Sleepfoundation.org recommends that adults get between 7 and 9 hours every night. If you’re not reaching that number, we recommend winding down with some sleepytime tea.
Summer Health Tip #4 - Grill Out
Did you know that grilling is one of the healthiest ways to prepare food?
It’s true! In fact, grilling on a regular basis can help you consume leaner meats, reduces your fat intake, and often compels people to eat more fresh, in-season veggies.
Not to mention, grilling gets you outside and into the fresh air, which is good for your body!
We believe dinner on the grill tastes best when it’s had time to marinate in your favorite seasonings. Whether you’re in need of a meat marinade or veggie marinade--or both!--we’ve got a great selection of spices in our store.
Check out our grilling marinades here!
Summer Health Tip #5 - Get Outside and Get Moving
By far the best thing you can do for your health this summer is to get outside and get moving!
Not sure what to do? We recommend…
- Going on a hike
- Taking a swim
- Joining a summer community sporting team
- Take your pet for a walk
- Go for a bike ride
While you’re out enjoying your activities, it’s important to stay fueled up. One of our favorite grabs and go snacks are protein bars. They are easy to pack and take anywhere you go, and help keep you nice and full in between activities.
