Organic Supplements: 5 Tips to Ensure Your Products Are Safe and Effective
From an early age, we are taught the importance of eating a healthy, well-balanced diet.
Yet, with busy schedules, long days at work, and free time spent wrangling kids, we often don’t get the nutrition we need.
That’s one of the many reasons supplements exist--to supplement nutrition. And every year, millions of people consume them.
In fact, according to a consumer survey on dietary supplements, 68% of people in the US take supplements.
Out of those 64%, up to 84% of those people believe the supplements they take are completely safe and do what they are marketed to do.
But, how safe and effective are they?
In such an unregulated industry, it’s so important to know exactly what you’re buying and how the supplement might affect your body.
And today, we’re going to talk about just that.
Keep reading to discover how you can ensure the supplements you purchase are safe and effective.
The Scary World of Unregulated Supplement Production
First and foremost, it’s important to understand that the supplement industry isn’t well regulated.
In fact, under the terms of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (which is still active as of today), it clearly states that…
“Supplements with established ingredients (meaning those that had been sold in the United States before 1994) can be marketed without any evidence that they are effective or safe.”
This means that any old John Doe can mash up a variety of ingredients, throw them in a bottle, and then claim they are safe and healthy, and can be used to treat x, y, or z.
How scary is that?
Now, of course, supplement brands make their money off of people. So, in that respect, it’s best practice to produce a safe product that actually produces results.
I truly don’t believe that companies intentionally scam people while selling them dangerous products.
But I am always cautious as to what I put into my body and have a few tips that might be helpful in ensuring your safety as well.
Here are my thoughts…
Supplement Safety Tip #1 - Always Ask Your Doctor First
Before you take any sort of supplement pill, it’s vital to talk with your doctor first.
I use this rule for the supplements I take --even if the product itself seems really common or normal, like calcium or vitamin C.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health and well-being.
Supplement Safety Tip #2 - Do Your Research
Because the supplement industry isn’t well regulated, it’s important to do your research on supplements before you decide what to consume.
A simple online search can help you find information such as…
If you feel comfortable with the information you’re finding, then it’s likely that the supplement is well crafted and well loved by others.
If you see negative reviews or come across medical reports that indicate there are issues with the product, stay away from it.
Supplement Safety Tip #3 - Shop for Natural or Organic Supplements
Supplements are created with all sorts of chemicals and additives that are harmful to your health.
If you want to add a supplement to your diet, I recommend that you find a brand that is 100% organic OR natural.
Doing so will ensure that you’re consuming the highest quality ingredients.
Simply read the bottle of your current supplements to see if they are 100% organic or natural.
If not, I invite you to check out the large variety of safe, natural, organic supplements inside my store.

Supplement Safety Tip #4 - Abide by the Recommended Dosage
Just because a supplement is natural or organic, it doesn’t mean it’s safe to consume in a careless manner.
Always abide by the recommended dosage on your supplement bottle or your doctor’s recommendation.
If you notice any unusual symptoms after taking a supplement, stop consuming it immediately.
Supplement Safety Tip #5 - Consume Supplements with a Natural, Healthy Diet
Supplements won’t be as effective if you’re eating an unhealthy diet that’s high in processed, chemical-filled foods.
In order to get the most out of your supplements, pair them with organic, whole foods that promote whole body health.
You are what you eat, and your supplements are included in that.
