How to Balance Your Life, Manage Stress, and Maintain Good Health in a World of Chaos

It’s no secret that 2020 has been a year of changes and incredible challenges. So I’m going to take a minute to ask…

“How are you really doing?”

If your answer is “not great”, you’re not alone. As a small business owner and a parent of school-aged children, it’s been stressful trying to juggle it all—even with a team of supportive employees behind the scenes.

It’s possible you’re in the same boat, feeling overwhelmed and wondering how you’re going to manage it all. And, while we can’t make your responsibilities disappear, take your kids for an afternoon so you can take a nap, or bring your work life back to normal, my team and I can share a few tips on how we’re working to reduce the stress in our lives.

What are we doing to find a little balance? Here are a few ideas…

Get Creative While Adapting to Your New “Normal”

Change can be scary and stressful, and these days many of us are finding ourselves deeply missing friends, family, and our normal routines.

If you’re feeling the strain of being stuck at home all day, it’s time to get creative!

Foremost, we recommend you get out where it’s safe! Take a walk around your neighborhood while you can safely social distance, spend some time playing catch with your kids in the backyard, or jump in your car and take a ride around town.

If you feel comfortable, use the drive through to pick up a cup of your favorite coffee or order takeout and have a picnic in your car!

Getting out for even just 30 minutes can do wonders for your mental health. While we normally don’t recommend that people eat a double cheeseburger and a milkshake for dinner, it’s ok to treat yourself every once in a while, so go for it!

Finally, make good use of technology to stay in touch with family and friends. Pick up your phone and give your girlfriend from college that you haven’t talked to in 5 years a call! Or start up a virtual game via a Zoom call with family and friends.

There are many ways you can stay social, which is so important during these times!

Practice Self-Care

No matter what’s going on in the world, self-care is ALWAYS important.

We know you’re juggling a lot right now. This makes it even more important to set aside time to take care of yourself. We promise that the toilet that needs a good scrubbing can wait!

Block off an hour a day where you can enjoy some time to yourself.

  • Paint your nails…
  • Read a book…
  • Indulge in a cheesy Hallmark movie…
  • Take a hot bath…
  • Go for a walk...
  • Bake cookies…

Give yourself permission to practice self-care. We promise you’ll be a better employee, parent, and overall human being when you take the time to invest in yourself!

Cook Healthy Meals

What we eat can directly affect our stress levels.

When you eat well, you feel good. And when you feel good, it’s easier to manage everything that life will throw at you.

This can be difficult as stress or sadness can leave us craving sweet, salty, and fatty foods. Resist the temptation--they will only leave you feeling worse in the long run.

Opt for fresh, natural foods that will fuel your body, not weigh it down.

Ask For Help When You Need It

We know...you’re superwoman (or superman!).

And while we have no doubt that you can manage it all, it’s important to ask for help when you need it.

We’re no stranger to asking for help as our business quadrupled last Spring. It was a very stressful and chaotic learning curve trying to manage and fulfill orders amongst a global pandemic in which our suppliers were shutting down and/or struggling.

We needed a helping hand and our team grew by leaps and bounds, better preparing ourselves to serve our clients. A huge THANK YOU to those who stuck with us through such a crazy transition!

If you need help, whether it be with childcare, household chores, or you're struggling with your mental health, go to your friends, family, and/or a counselor to get the help you need!

We hope that as this year carries on, things will continue to get better for everyone who is feeling the weight of the current events that are happening in the world.

While we can’t go door-to-door making life easier for those in our community, we can share what’s helping us get through these rough times. We can also help by taking one chore off your plate—grocery shopping!

If you don’t have the time or energy to go grocery shopping (or if you have concerns about germs in public places) we invite you to check out our store that’s full of safe and natural food items and household products.

Wishing you a safe, stress-free, and healthy Fall season!
